Happy Halloween!

I think my eyes are different sizes, shapes and level on my face. Pirate-y.

Matrix of Loneliness

Read this.

Also this is terribly beautiful and sweet and it makes me inconsolably sad.

I feel like I've been really self-destructive over the last few weeks. Not sure what I need to do to right myself. Sigh.

Starting an emailing campaign to all my friends has been the best decision I've made in recent memory. (if you haven't gotten one yet, it is coming or you can take the initiative to start the dialogue)

I've always been the kind with easy confidence...

Confident enough to honestly believe that nothing out there stopping me...

Cleaning Up

I am going to scrub this place like a crime scene... which it is because you murdered joy. - Cam, Modern Family

fuck, i miss it so much.

Why are women in science (computer or otherwise) portrayed like this on the television:

Instead of like this:

p.s. I am sure there are plenty of other examples of this being done well AND Abby & Penelope are cool characters and their lifestyle choices are totally fine... blah blah blah. I really just wanted to put a picture of Sonya doing SCIENCE.

There's Your Sign

All signs are seeming to point toward it being the time to leave San Diego.

not for me.

My mom sent me this poem which her grandmother sent to her when she was going through a rough time.

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest, if you must, but don't you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don't give up though the pace seems slow--
You may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than,
It seems to a faint and faltering man,
Often the struggler has given up,
When he might have captured the victor's cup,
And he learned too late when the night slipped down,
How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out--
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far,
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit--
It's when things seem worst that you must not quit.

Increasingly it feels as though I have been striving to adhere to this plan that was set out for me by who knows what and I've been doing pretty much everything "right" to stay on script but the promised outcome isn't showing up.

I don't even know if I like this plan... but what would I do instead?

I guess this is what all the Occupy stuff is sort of about.

goodness gracious.

Moms: How Do They Do It?

I basically just cried for an hour on the phone to my mom about my life.

In other news, she is going to get all the trees around her house cut down.

This Moment for Life

Someone once told me that they admired the way I live. And I thought that was a pretty amazing compliment and that they should just do it with me because it would be so much fun.

I guess that is what we're all looking for... someone to live and really be alive with.

Whopper Lair

I'd be much fatter and Burger King much richer if they would deliver.

also, I plan to do zero things today.

Some Things

1. I wonder when you decided to stop being open and honest with me.
2. My mom didn't really know who Steve Jobs was.
3. I am actually really sad about his passing. iSad
4. When I told my mom that I was thinking about going to see a movie tonight, she suggested Bridesmaids. ohhh Mom.
5. The movie Drive doesn't have all that much driving in it.

Probably Wasn't But Whatever

I am going to go ahead and consider the last day or so a victory. Including this meh soup I just made.

How can you not be romantic about baseball?

Things I saw today:

1. The Cowboys collapse
2. Some fishermen on the pier catch a lobster and a sting ray
3. Moneyball (go see it too)
4. Surfers being awesome. It seems like even when they aren't doing well, they fail infinitely more elegantly than I must look when I am out there.
5. A wonderful sunset
